MEN'S S/S 2020 RUNWAY HIGHLIGHTS: Paris gives a tender update to workwear

In Paris, it's time for freshness and countrified lightness

The Men's Spring/Summer 2020 Paris fashion shows take us to the sweet side of life. A fresh and light silhouette that, by sophisticating workwear codes, deftly sidesteps anything too guileless, painting instead a picture of a man in touch with his sensitive side.

Find here a selection of fabrics and leather from the Marketplace, following the S/S 2020 Men's Fashion Shows in Paris.

Boldly pastel

While the Paris fashion shows featured a surprising amount of pastels, they were far from innocent. Lilac, pink, pearl grey and layette blue were colour choices to be starkly offset by a choice of material or by their combinations. A way for the S/S 2020 man to assert his sensitive side, his own desire for a slightly childlike softness.

Worked in colorblock or monochrome, pastels take the edge off the strictness of tailored pieces, especially suits (with long pants or shorts), and oversized double-breasted blazers.

So, for example, rather bubble-gum pinks are combined with burgundy, for a new take on the fuchsia/red chromatic duo.

Poetic workwear

Played on technical materials, these colourways bring a breath of fresh air to the workwear trend.

A subtler way of re-interpreting 90's workwear codes, for a modern bad boy look. Shapes are oversized and executed in strong, high-performance fabrics with stitching details and multi-pocket topstitching.

Baggy pants make a big comeback, sometimes well cut and worked in technical fabrics such as airy polyamide. Lightly coated cotton also adds sophistication to a jumpsuit or cargo pant with exaggerated multi-pocket details.

Confirming the Spring Summer 2020 Bests for Men, utility codes will be updated in more refined and chic versions, with ultra-light and clean materials such as barely coated cotton or polyamides, and smooth, extremely fine or fishnet-like leathers. The look, for example, of a workwear jacket with patch pockets, over-embroidered with flowers.

Floral infusions

Water-coloured or digitalized, flowers stood out as key decorations in the Paris men's shows. Here again, no nonsense, but rather a way to assume a fierce craving for nature and simplicity. Decoration is expressed on all materials, including the transparency of a silk mousseline, a more technical nylon or a printed leather.

Pastel colours, clean and extremely light fabrics, floral infusions craft a way for Spring/Summer 2020 menswear to embrace a desire for softness and sensitivity, without falling into anything overly naive.

Fashion shows with an across-the-board taste for the country, celebrating an irrepressible desire to get back to nature.
